There is an entire sub-field of software development called “compile to C++.” I’m not sure if it’s because they have the same goal as compilers, or if they have it because they were doing the same thing. They are trying to do the same thing as C++ but in a way that is more compatible with the way that C++ works.

This is the kind of thing that I don’t really understand (but it is definitely on our radar). This is not an example of something that would be useful to a programmer because it is not a language feature, but something that I have had to do manually a number of times. I have been toying with the idea of writing a compiler to PHP that will do the job, but I have never been able to get it to run.

If you think I’m being overly dramatic, then perhaps you can imagine my frustration when I found that the PHP code for the BTC code was in PHP. Even though I knew that the php code for the BTC code was in php, I could not run it because php needed to be installed. It was a frustrating thing to have to fiddle with, but I was able to get it running on the other side.
